APE 3 song EP to be released soon - September 6, 2010

Although their hasn't been much news on the APE front lately, Everett and Galen are excited to be releasing a new APE 3 song EP very soon (hopefully within the month). The band will be releasing material they recorded back in April and May of this year. APE has been through a lot in the last two years. 2009 saw the band do a cross-country tour, release their first full length album "Survival Of The Fittest" and their first music video "It's Not" (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Cs17_GcR1_s) along with many flattering reviews posted on the net for the bands debut album. 2010 however, has been more of a struggle for APE both internally and externally. While waiting months for some of the shit to settle, APE's two founding and only remaining members; Everett Mason and Galen Weir will release the bands new CD soon. A release date has not yet been set but it is expected the new CD will be pressed within a month. With no APE shows booked and with no timetable on when APE will take the stage again their have been rumblings about Galen and Everett embarking on side projects during the bands downtime.

A year later and kickass reviews of "Survival Of The Fittest" keep on coming in. - June 21, 2010

GO APE SHIT!!

Kick Ass Review From Metal Express Radio - January 30, 2010

Originally, the band Ape from the city of Toronto is supposed to be, as they meant it to be, the next new age memorable Rock band. A substitute to others that the crowd might have forgotten about and a new promise for the current generation.

With the birth of the band’s second release Survival Of The Fittest, the message is out – there is a new and intelligent band on display and it has surprises for both the Rock and the Metal worlds. Just as the title says, only the fittest to stay will survive for years to come, just as the majority of the giants of Rock and Metal have survived over the last decades.

Ape, in its essence, are a not just a Rock band, to be more accurate, they have Rock elements of the 80s and 90s, however, they use grooves of Alternative, Hard Rock, Heavy Metal and even reminders of Speed and Thrash Metal.

On first listen, it would seem like if you are listening to a late 90s version of Metallica, yet this notion will only insult Ape’s efforts because they are the real thing on issuing true, varied Rock/Metal music.

Survival Of The Fittest has the ability to conjure the transformation between genres and sub-genres in a flash without looking back, that is why this album has so much to offer for every Rock/Metal fan and whoever appreciates unpredictable and uncommercialized material. The main purpose of the Ape trio is to show all the genres’ fans that the love for this kind of music is not just a fling of teenagers; it is something that will stay and remain beside each one of you until your last breath. Of course, it depends if you let it in your worldly bubble.

Through the tracks of Survival Of The Fittest you can hear all the mentioned genres without even trying to point out what it sounds like because it will scramble your mind. The fact is that there are so many similarities to many bands in the Rock/Metal industry that it would be a complete waste of time. Every track on the list can be Rocky, Thrashy and most of all eagerly surprising when it shifts between kinds of music.

To enlighten here are few examples of great songs. First there is “It’s Not”, hearing its main rhythm will probably knock you off because if you can recollect Michael Jackson’s hit “Smooth Criminal” you might recognize what it’s all about. With this crazy rhythm there are speedy, groovy and even thrashy like hunks under the sly mood of Hard Rock. Second, “Beyond The Depths Of Reality” is going through the same idea, yet it possess a massive rhythmic section of semi-Slayer like edges. Third, “Irate Primate” is an all out Hard Rock tune, however to it comes out Megadeth-like with tech riffs of the late 80s. Last one is “Friend Of Foe”, an Alice In Chains close relative with a pack of great speedy parts and 80s Hard Rock thrilling times.

Alongside these great archetypes travels other great tunes with similar and different influences to others. Survival Of The Fittest, as said earlier, is the most impressive gift to have if you are an open minded person. The music is flowing around and it will keep you hooked to it as long as the player you are using is on.

The state of Ontario, as the most important Metal state in Canada, is raising one of the highest potential stars in Metal and in Rock. It is safe to say that under the wing of this Metal state, Ape will flourish to yet another success of an album, their system works.

APE vs. A.P.E Controversy - January 2, 2010

We think it is necessary to clear something up. APE and A.P.E. are in fact two different bands. Understandably this is very confusing. Two rock bands from Toronto with the same name. To add to the confusion, our name is derived from an acronym as well, however now we now simply go by APE. We assure everyone that this confusion is entirely not our fault. Another band called A Primitive Evolution is playing under the name A.P.E. A few months ago we contacted the band A Primitive Evolution to let them know that APE is already taken and suggested that they go by their full name since their acronym is our band name. But our emails have been ignored. We think there is a simple solution to this. They should go by their full name A Primitive Evolution and we should continue with our name APE that we have been playing under since 2001. After all, if you are an original band don’t you want to have your own identity? We don’t believe A Primitive Evolution purposely stole our name, we think it was an accident. We even think the skull in their logo that we also use in our logo is just a coincidence. It seems that the problem now is that they are in too deep to change or start over. A Primitive Evolution just did and album that is called A.P.E. (our debut album is also called APE released in 2007) and they probably have our name all over their merchandise as well. So rather than update their name to one that is original, it seems as if their plan is to ignore us and hope we go away without making a stink. Not going to happen. Regardless of which band you are a fan of we want all of you to know that we had the name first and that putting periods between each letter of our band name doesn’t make it original. Anyone who sees their posters can see that A.P.E. is always in big letters and you have to squint to see that it actually stands for something. We felt the need to post this after receiving countless emails and phone calls of disappointed APE fans paying a cover charge to see the wrong band. We wouldn’t have posted this unless we believed we are 100 percent in the right. To all you independent bands out there, protect what is yours.

Sincerely,Toronto’s original APE
